Living with Alzheimer’s’

At Care Contact, we understand the importance for older people to remain and receive quality care in their home where all the good memories and life history have been spent.

This is the bedrock for person centred care and quality care which our staff are trained to provide to all of our Service Users, particularly those suffering from cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s disease. Most people with this progressive condition prefer to remain in their own home for as long as possible, rather than move to residential care or nursing homes.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia and affects one in three people over the age of 65 years. It is not an inevitable consequence of aging. It is caused by a physical disease which progressively attacks the brain. The symptoms include:

  • Memory loss
  • Difficulty with speech and understanding
  • Periods of mental confusion
  • Changes in behaviour and emotional responses
  • Problems with movement
  • Increased apathy
  • Loss of confidence

However, with the right care and support people with Alzheimer’s disease can continue to live well in their own homes, avoiding the need for residential care or nursing homes.

Alzheimer’s Services

Care Contact offers a range of services to support people with Alzheimer’s so they are able to be as independent as possible and live the lives they choose. We believe in working in partnership with the Service Users, their family and other care professionals to provide personalised care and support.

Our experienced care manager will arrange a visit to assess and highlight your tailored care plan that supports your specific care needs. In addition, Our coordinators and support workers also work with you to identify risks on a regular basis with the aim of managing and preventing risks.

As each person is affected differently, the plan will support you to achieve your specific goals and aspirations. Our fully trained staff develop a relationship with you so they can better understand what is important about the way you wish to live your life.  We find out about how you like to communicate so that we can keep you in control of your care and support as much as possible.

We always seek to understand each Service User’s behaviour and support them to feel good about themselves.
